Halloween Ninjas

The girls had a blast trick-or-treating tonight. We decided to let Bria go ahead and go. She was such a trooper being sick the past couple of weeks and missed out on some other fun Halloween stuff this weekend that we decided she couldn't skip trick-or-treating too. Jon decided to skip out on his costume because he's fighting a little cold, but the girls had a great time going around our neighborhood for an hour. I stayed home and handed out candy. I made them pose for a million pictures so here are a few of them!

Emmy's Nursery Rhyme Parade

Emmy's kindergarten class is doing a Nursery Rhyme Parade today at school. The kids each get to pick out a nursery rhyme to recite and bring in props or a decorated poster board appropriate to their rhyme. Emmy came up with her idea all on her own - she wanted to be "all the king's horses and all the king's men" from Humpty Dumpty. I hope she has fun today!

Double Whammy

Wow. . . . . this flu virus is really really really not my friend. Last week Bria came down with what we are pretty sure was H1N1. After 5 days of fever she started feeling better and headed to school Monday with nothing more than a cough. But Monday night it came back with a powerful punch: worse cough, worse body aches and the fever came back. I took her in this morning and we had xrays done. The doctor's office just called to confirm that she has pneumonia. So we've got her on antibiotics, an inhaler and tamiflu just to cover all the bases. We'll be keeping a real close eye on her and make sure she doesn't get any worse.
So this whole flu bug - NOT FUN. And the second half of it hit harder and faster than the first half. I hate seeing my girl so miserable, but hopefully with some medicine, lots of rest and lots of fluids she will be back to her normal perky self by next week.
To all my daycare families.... so sorry for all the closings the past 2 weeks. I know this is his hard on you guys too. It looks like we're in for a long flu season and hopefully we can all just find ways to make it work out for everyone. I want to be open on Friday, but I'll keep everyone posted on whether or not that will be possible. We have to be careful to not let Bria get exposed to anything else at all right now while her body is fighting to get well.

From the flu trenches.....

Mr. Fat Ninja

Jon had a Halloween party for his Sertoma group last night. Since I'm coming down with something, I stayed home to take care of the girls. They are still running low-grade fevers and coughing terribly too. Jon had a fun time getting ready for the party at least. He decided to go as a blow-up ninja. The girls were so excited about his costume! Can't wait for him to get dressed up and take the girls trick-or-treating around the neighborhood next weekend since they already had ninja costumes picked out! So we'll have 3 ninjas for halloween this year!

Crazy Hair Day for School

Last week the school was doing Red Ribbon Week and the girls' favorite day is red mismatch/crazy hair day. Here is what we came up with for each of them....

Ugh... the Flu

It seems to be our turn for the flu around here. We thought maybe Emmy had it on Monday, but it turns out she just had an ear infection. She's already feeling better and we're very glad. Bria on the other hand seems to have the full blwon flu virus. She's had the high fever, horrible cough, body aches, headache.... not fun at all. Thankfully there was no school for 3 days this week anyway and hopefully by Monday everyone will feel better and be able to go back to school and work. Here's to another quiet few days!

Fun Visit

We had a great time with my parents here last weekend. They got to freeze through two of Emmy's soccer games Saturday morning, see some snowflakes, visit a pumpkin patch with us and do a little shopping. We enjoyed having them here and so did the girls - thanks for coming to see us!

Everyone trying to stay warm during half-time. Emmy's team had a double header Saturday morning - it was 33 degrees with 20-35 mph winds. For the first game there were 4 kids from her team there - by the time of the second game, there were only 3 players. insane!!! Oh, and there was a lot of tackling and take-downs during the first game - Go Emmy!

Loving the Outside Time

The little kiddos and I made it up to the pumpkin patch and back this morning before the rain came. They had a good time running around, exploring and checking out all the pumpkins. We've also been squeezing in as much outside time in the afternoon as we can on the days it is dry. The kids love being outside more than anything!
I put together a slide show with a bunch of pictures from the past couple of days for everyone to enjoy.

Busier Days

Things just got a bit busier around here. Sophie decided that home isn't the only place she can crawl!

Flu Information

From the CCR&R office: "The flu season has begun. It's begun early, and nearly all of the influenza that is being reported is the novel H1N1 virus. Children and young adults are still being hit the hardest,. H1N1 is being reported in all 50 states. There are 21 states that are reporting widespread activity."

Flu IQ Test

The flu is definitely here and not going anywhere. I am going to try to post some helpful information for my daycare families regarding the status of the flu in our community, steps to be taken regarding keeping your children home from daycare and any other helpful information as I continue to receive it from the CCR&R as well as from the state websites and other helpful sites.

Thank you to you all for keeping a close eye on your kids so far and encouraging lots of hand washing and other healthy habits.
